4Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.
Hebrews 13:4 (NIV)
13 Another thing you do: You
flood the LORD's altar with tears. You weep and wail because he no
longer pays attention to your offerings or accepts them with
pleasure from your hands. 14 You ask,
"Why?" It is because the LORD is acting as the witness between you
and the wife of your youth, because you have broken faith with
her, though she is your partner, the wife of your marriage
covenant.
15 Has not the LORD made them
one? In flesh and spirit they are his. And why one? Because he was
seeking godly offspring.
So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith with the
wife of your youth.
16 "I hate divorce," says the
LORD God of Israel, "and I hate a man's covering himself
with violence as well as with his garment," says the LORD
Almighty. So guard yourself in your spirit, and do not break faith.
Malachi 2:13-16 (NIV)
27"You have heard that it was
said, 'Do not commit adultery.'
28But I tell you that anyone who
looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her
in his heart. 29If your right eye
causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better
for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to
be thrown into hell. 30And if your
right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is
better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole
body to go into hell.
Matthew 5:27-30 (NIV)
31"It has been said, 'Anyone
who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.'
32But I tell you that anyone who
divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her
to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman
commits adultery.
Matthew 5:31-32 (NIV)
4"Haven't you read," he
replied, "that at the beginning the Creator 'made them male and
female,'
5and said, 'For this reason a man
will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and
the two will become one flesh'?
6So they are no longer two, but one.
Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate."
Matthew 19:4-6 (NIV)
8Jesus replied, "Moses
permitted you to divorce your wives because your hearts were hard.
But it was not this way from the beginning.
9I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for
marital unfaithfulness, and marries another woman commits adultery."
Matthew 19:8-9 (NIV)
5"It was because your hearts
were hard that Moses wrote you this law," Jesus replied.
6"But at the beginning of creation
God 'made them male and female.'
7'For this reason a man will leave
his father and mother and be united to his wife,
8and the two will become one flesh.'
So they are no longer two, but one. 9Therefore
what God has joined together, let man not separate."
Mark 10:5-9 (NIV)
10When they were in the house
again, the disciples asked Jesus about this.
11He answered, "Anyone who divorces
his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her.
12And if she divorces her husband and
marries another man, she commits adultery."
Mark 5:10-12 (NIV)
